US dismantled by Germany, what does this mean for the Czechs?
What can the Czechs learn from this poor excuse for a US showing in the game just finished against Germany in Dortmund? A lot. In case you weren’t watching the live blogging, I’ll break it down for you.
I’m going to take you through the game, highlighting points of interest to the Czechs – “Czech Marks” – watch for them.
The US was definitely hurting without the likes of McBride, Bocanegra, and Pope. As good of a keeper as Kasey is, he couldn’t perform miracles that the bad defense necessitated. Czech Mark: Watch Bocanegra and Pope at the back. Beg Bruce to start Jimmy Conrad again. Hope McBrides luck of the Irish from his win against Chelsea doesn’t bring the US good fortune. And oh yeah, watch out for his killer headers. Also, remind Cech that it wasn’t McBride that scored on him, it was some other guy who played for Fulham.
Taylor Twellman is strong, but his confidence is not absolute. Czech Mark: This is where playing headgames with double T could pay off. Remind him how he just recently got his mojo back and poof! No more goals from Tay-tay!
Clint Demspey has a temper. Czech Mark: See above: “head games”.
The US cannot recover from being down in the match. Czech Mark: Score early and often.
Italy beat Germany like Rodney King, Germany beat the US, and we’re better than Italy because we’re ranked #2. Czech Mark: Ergo, we rule. We are so going to dominate Group E.
None of the US Players have abs like Milan Baros. Czech Mark: Enough said. Game. Set. Match.

Nice Rodney King reference but the US is still going to be the Czechs. You can mark that down!

Ah yes Baros…hey did his abs help him or hurt him this season with Aston Villa?
and if recent past dictates furture play; Baros will be diving like a free diver in a desperate attempt to keep his record of blown penalty kicks from being beaten…
just sayin..

Czech is NOT better than Italy. They have world class players but didn’t qualify for 98 or 2002 world cup. Nedved is a great player but he dives too much and is getting slow. Italy has Luca Toni, Alberto Gillardino, Totti, Delpiero, Andrea Pirlo, plus the best keeper in the world Buffon not to mention their stingy defence. Only Brasil has a more complete team than Italy. No one on the world cup stage are push overs anymore Czech will have to play great football to make it to the 2nd round……

For me, Czech is better than Italy any day of the week. Italy also had a ridiculous performance in both EC04 and WC02. I also feel, though, the #2 in the ranking is too high.

A more appropiate ranking for the group would be:
#1 Italy
.
.
.
.
#9 Czech Republic
.
.
.
.
.
.
#31 Ghana
.
.
.

.
.
#46 USA

Look at all the odds makers and see if they don’t have Italy winning the group with Czech finishing 2nd and US 3rd. Most observers of football other than a Czech or Italian would favor Italy over Czech. European cup and world cup are NOT the same ask Portugal in 2002. Czech has to bring their A game if they expect to beat Ghana and USA and be competitive with Italy . Like the Czech coach said there are no “push overs” he knows what he is talking about. I do expect Czech to go to the 2nd round, then loose to Brasil because I expect Italy to win the group.
