More on Smicer’s Injury

May 23rd, 2006 | By: Wendy | 4 Comments »

InjuryWatch 2006 continues here at WorldCupBlog. Here’s the latest on Mad Vlad Smicer from PragueTV.

Vladimir Smicer has been taken to hospital in Innsbruck, for a medical examination, after apparently aggravating the knee tendon injury he’s been struggling with since February. The Bordeaux midfielder was practicing shooting during a national team training session in Seefeld,
Austria when he suffered the setback. New Rangers signing Libor Sionko is on stand-by in case Smicer isn’t available for the World Cup finals.

I reckon Karel Bruckner should drop Smicer and include Jiri Jarosik. A player who played exceptionally well but didnt have the team to match.

I watched the May 28th broadcast of the USA-Latvia game and at half time, ESPN2 had a report on the injuries inflicting the Czech team. I don’t remember the 3 mentioned but am fairly sure the first one was concerning Jan Koller and was either a groin or leg injury. The report said the injuries were adding up. This has caused me some worry and of course, the pro-USA station played that up; as well as the woes going on in Italy with betting. I do like USA too; but maybe not as much as the Czechs. Does this pose any threat to the Czech’s aim in the World Cup??

I think as long as we (the Czechs that is) have Nedved and Rosicky in midfield, things should be all right. I saw that report too and I think they said Koller was probably going to be fit for next week. (!!!) However I just heard today that Rosicky took a bad knock to the leg against Saudi Arabia and can’t play against Costa Rica tomorrow–yikes. Get well soon Tomas, and I mean SOON…
