Is the Czech Republic Overrated?

Since I am merely a guest blogger until Wendy returns from her much deserved vacation, I can stir up a little trouble, get you all to hate me and then leave for higher ground. With that plan fully in place, I’m ready to tell all the Czech Republic fans out there that your team is not the second best team in the world. FIFA has been telling your otherwise for a long time now, but we all know that those computer generated rankings are not the most accurate.

The Czech Republic is a fine team and probably deserves to be in the top ten, but at this point I challenge any of you to justify the team’s number two ranking. I don’t think you can do it, but go ahead an tell me why I am wrong.

The ELO rating system seems to produce much more sensible rankings, go check them out at http://www.eloratings.net/

Czech is placed 5th in the world there, which is quite reasonable. Based on their performance during the last two campaigns (EURO 2004 and WC 2006) I’d certainly put them at least into the top 8.

Hope that they can go all the way in Germany!

lol here’s my guess on things…. maybe fifa rates goalies as being half the value of the team…..

Booooooo! Hisssssss! The only reason Czech is not ranked FIRST in FIFA is Brazil will always be called first no matter how they play! HAH!

Eh, seriously though, fourth or fifth sounds reasonable to me too. They enjoy being the underdogs though. COME ON CZECHS!!!!!!!
