Well, Bruckner’s roster is pretty much as expected aside from the omission of Rudi Skacel. I can’t help but think that is a mistake, though there is certainly no shortage of offensively-minded players in this squad. Still, I think Skacel would have been a prudent choice given the advanced age of some of the CR regulars.

[...] Czech Republic coach Karel Brueckner’s biggest concern at the moment might be the health of the players he has chosen to play in Germany. Vladimir Smicer, Vratislav Lokvenc, Zdenek Grygera and Jan Koller are all racing against time to regain their fitness for the World Cup. [...]

Yes, I’m upset that Rudi wasn’t chosen. You know how much I love that guy!

TSN is reporting that Bruckner stated that, if Smicer is not fit in time for the Cup, he could be replaced by either Libor Sionko or Skacel. Here is a link to the article:

Man, this is a pretty old bunch of players Nedved, Galasek, Smicer, Poborsky are all key players in the midfield and they’re all 33+. Their defense hasn’t been the qucikest/strongest they might struggle against the athleticism of the US team.
