NO Lindt chocolate in my shopping cart for the opening match!

If you speak Czech, you should know what “Méd’a” means. My friend’s hubby made a small Czech jersey(away 06-07 w/ the backnumber 11 and says NEDVĚD) and let the tiny stuffed bear wear it as a talisman for the Czech squad and for me. Will be shipped out to me in a couple of days. The bear still needs shorts, socks and the mop-esque hair! LOL.
Since England isn’t qualified for EURO2008, most pubs aren’t showing the memorable opening match Switzerland – Czech Republic which majorly pisses me off. Thanks to my best friend into the Dutch(yikes!), I am going to manage to catch the match. on the 7th of June we have 3 important matches in a row. The first one is Hidetoshi Nakata’s “Take Action! 2008 +1″ (a sort of a charity match with guest players include Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Marco Marchionni and more. Then the World Cup qualifiers Japan – Oman comes on, and FINALLY EURO 2008! I’m almost broke but to show my gratitude towards my “Oranje” friend(though she has a soft spot for Baroš and she has a Czech Republic jersey w/ his name on the back) , I’ll bring some Czech beer and make her cook some Czech meals as well as Currywurst(German sausages with curry sauce on) and Pomme Fritz(french fries). Naturally, as my hand is not working, cooking has got to be her part. I can see that I’ll shout at her “NO! Czechs won’t cook that way and you totally suck at cooking!” Anyway we’re gonna turn her apartment into a stadium sure as hell. And absolutely my shopping list excludes Port wine, Lindt chocolate and Turkish coffee.
Well again off to bed… will post my predictions tomorrow in the last minute…
Kdo neskáče není Čech, hop, hop, hop!!!

I have just discovered this great blog, thank you for running it! I am surprised that there is a Czech Republic blog on the BBC, and am very pleased indeed to see it. One question: I live in Japan (Tokyo), which it appears you do, too. It means that the tournament will be very painful as the games all start so late Japanese time… Anyway, I would love to watch my team play surrounded by a proper footballing atmosphere, rather than at home on TV – would you happen to know where I could watch the Czech team play against the Swiss in a bar in Tokyo? Somewhere that is NOT Roppongi preferably, as I really don’t like the area? I don’t know any other Czechs or fans of the Czech Republic here. Also, just out of curiosity: are you Japanese with some link to the Czech Republic, or are you a Czech living in Japan?
Again, thanks for blogging!

Just re-read your entry, looks like you’re in England, so please ignore my request for advice (unless you happen to know a place in Tokyo where they MIGHT show the game). In another comments section it said “posted from Japan” under your name. Then again, for some reason it says under my first comment “posted from Australia”, even though I am sitting at my desk in Otemachi, Central Tokyo.

Ahoj Lukasi!
Thanks for the compliment – to be quite honest with you, as I’ve been seeing the doctors and the attorney, I don’t have enough time to translate article on CMFS website under their permission, and I AM frustrated like crazy. Shame on me!
The only place in central Tokyo where you can “feel” the football, which I DO highly recommend, is this place called THE ALDGATE located at the end of Center Street in Shibuya. Their URL is: http://www.the-aldgate.com/
Just called them and CONFIRMED that they’re gonna show Switzerland – Czech Republic which means you might have to kill some time outside the JR Shibuya Station after the match until the trains start running. Or maybe you can stay in the bar if you order even more beer and behave yourself.
Since the weather forecast says this sunday’s gonna be as hot as today, you won’t have to wander in the cold. I can tell you the atmosphere at the Aldgate is great and the owners know the shit about football, but alas, they have no “pivo.”
The bartenders and servers speak decent English so if you’d like, just drop in there BEFORE midnight – otherwise you can’t get in since the place is filled with true footy addicts like every weekend and tomorrow night IS special. For the directions and the food/beer menu as well as the prices, check out their website. AFAIR, they charge JPY 900 for a pint of Guiness and/or Heineken. If I had enough cash, I would’ve been there for sure as hell with my huge Czech Republic flag, my Méd’as, a Czech Republic hat on, a Czech Republic sticker on my cheek wearing a Czech Republic national team jersey autographed by someone from Skalna…
Anyhow, hope this helps! If you have more questions, just e-mail me: pani.becherovkova[at]gmail.com
